A Building With A Story
Built in 1968 as an open-concept school, The Pearkes Centre has lived many lives since.

The original engineers of the General George R. Pearkes Elementary School created the building as an entirely open-concept school with no interior walls, cantilevered beams, a sunken amphitheatre-style auditorium, and second story library. The whole project was revolutionary for its time!

In 1986, the building was closed due to a population drop in the community. In 1991, the building re-opened as the Maranatha Christian Academy for students K-8. The Acadamy built the majority of the current walls and filled the amphitheatre with gravel to create a level gym.

The Maranatha Academy closed in1993 leaving the building vacant until Pat Markin came along and, seeing the business potential, turned the building into The Pearkes Centre; a multi-use business and events facility. Pat also focuses on promoting the Arts in Hudson's Hope and helped to found "The Arts On The Edge Society", and the "Jam At The Dam" Music Festival which ran for 6 years.

Pat owned the building until 2021, and you can still see some of her amazing art installations and paintings throughout the building - all created using recycled and salvaged materials!
